Our resistivity survey in the grounds of St Andrew's church in Ashingdon identified possible foundations of the earlier structure at the east end of the church. We have discovered that there was an archaeological survey of the church in 1986, and we hope to find the report from that.
Our bid to the Communities Initiative Fund for funding towards resistivity and ground penetrating radar surveys at St Nicholas's church in Canewdon was unsuccessful, so we are looking for alternative sources.
Two of the three samples of mortar from St Botolph's church in Hadstock that were sent to the USA for analysis contained no charcoal so could not be analysed. We are arranging to have two more samples taken and sent for analysis.
The historical review of All Saints' church was carried out but did not give us new information.
We are still looking for funding for a number of additional activities, including the investigation of ancient charters and further historical surveys for the minster candidates in the Ashdon area.
We have started a publications page on the website with a paper on where Cnut's army was raiding before the Battle of Assandun.
